Pros

  • It’s easy to cock
  • It’s accurate
  • It’s very light

Cons

  • The scope is not very good

This Excalibur Matrix Grizzly crossbow comes in a basic complete package that has a deadzone scope, a detachable quiver, 4 pieces of 18 inches Diablo arrows, 4 pieces 150-grain field points, and a rope cocking aid. This is basically everything you would need so you could use your crossbow the moment you get it. Take note that the weight hunting broadheads could be hard to find so we suggest you order them ahead of time as well. The brand Excalibur has been around for a very long time. This means their brand is already trustworthy. The Matrix Grizzly line is for those who want the Matrix performance but is on a budget. This comes in a mossy oak pattern that helps the crossbow blend in as you hunt and since it’s a recurve bow there are less parts that move. It has a polycarbonate frame, and a thumbhole stock that allows you to hold the crossbow and not worry about losing your hold of it. This crossbow only weighs 5.5LBS, and it’s only 27 inches when cocked. It’s also accurate enough to take down any game, as you shoot it it’s also fairly quiet because the draw weight is fairly low compared to the average. SInce it has short power strokes and length, this crossbow is very easy to cock, and since you have to lift it cocking is easier with this one. The scope that comes with this is pretty nice, but there are a lot of scope’s at the same price which is so much better so we consider this as one of the downsides of this crossbow. For this crossbow, we suggest you use a 350 grain arrow to maximize its potential.

Excalibur Matrix Grizzly Crossbow Review

Package Contents of the Excalibur Matrix Grizzly

The Excalibur Matrix Grizzly comes as a complete kit that covers all the basics. It consists of a Deadzone Scope, a quiver containing four arrows that can be detached, 4 Diablo 18’ arrows, rope-cocking air, and 150-grain field points up to four. All of these are the basics for when one wants to get started as a beginner shooter. The 150-grain weight hunting broadheads are an excellent choice, but finding it is quite the task. It is best to order all of it ahead of time to keep a bulk of it around.

First Impressions About Design, Comfort, Accuracy, and Safety For Excalibur Matrix Grizzly

The Excalibur brand is a long time winner when it concerns the production of crossbows. The manufacturer creates high-quality and top-notch crossbows. The Matrix Grizzly is one of their high-end products but does not come with a high-end price tag. It delivers the performance of the Matrix line, but it is not as pricey. The Matrix Grizzly has a great design that makes it lightweight and easy on the hands, suitable for hunting. It also utilizes the CRT limbs that you can see on most of the crossbows in the matrix line.

The design of the Grizzly has a Mossy Oak pattern that is very beneficial for camouflaging. The crossbow holder can blend in, and there is still the extra edge of it being a recurve, as it has a less likelihood for the moving parts to fail. This crossbow frame is a polycarbonate product, and the thumbhole stock is excellent for grip; no worries about that. The fact that it is easy on the hands and lightweight further makes it secure while handling. It is also suitable for your grip.

Unlike the rest of the Matrix crossbows, the Grizzly’s limbs do not utilize the REDS(Recoil Energy Dissipation System) that is popular with the Matrix line. But for getting a primary platform that also has an allowance to add on, it is an excellent choice for crossbows.

The Kinetic energy of the Excalibur Matrix Grizzly

The Matrix Grizzly has a design that ensures that users do not need excessive draw weight. There are places where using anything that has a draw weight superseding 200-lbs is illegal; the Matrix Grizzly helps you hunt in such locations as it has a very minimal draw weight requirement. The CRT limbs help transfer the force of the limbs to the arrow efficiently, resulting in a speed of about 305fps while using a 350-grain projectile.

That would mean that the arrow hits with a little more than 72 ft.lbs worth of energy at the muzzle. Of course, it is not the most powerful or hardest-hitting crossbow in existence, but it has enough hit force to conquer the medium-sized game, like deer.

Hunting reviews of the Excalibur Matrix Grizzly

The Grizzly has features that make hunting with it fun and easy. From how lightweight it is to how much of a good grip it has, the Grizzly is one good hunting weapon. It stands at 5.5lbs, which makes it easy on the hands while it is in use. When cocked, it measures up to a width of 27”, and with the compact nature of the limbs, it does excellent work for a recurve crossbow.

As earlier mentioned, the Grizzly is not the most massive or powerful in the Matrix line, but it has enough blunt force to take out a medium-sized game. And it has quite an adequate level of accuracy to get this done.

As with other crossbows from the Matrix line, the broadhead hangs far away from the barrel’s end where arrows are put in the shooting position. This is why it is necessary to ensure that the area in front of you is cleared so that you do not have to hang up when you lift for a shoot.

How Much Noise Does the Excalibur Matrix Grizzly Make?

If noise can chase away or alert your target, the noise effect of use should be a buying consideration when deciding to purchase your crossbow. The Matrix Grizzly produces minimal noise when used; this is majorly due to the low draw weight that the recurve limbs possess. If the Grizzly noise is still too excessive for you, you could easily purchase the REDS (Recoil Energy Dissipation System) and add to the Grizzly.

Cocking the Excalibur Matrix Grizzly

For a crossbow with a draw weight of 200-lb, the Matrix Grizzly is astonishingly easy to cock. The reason behind this is that this crossbow possesses a shorter power stroke and a shorter length overall. Seeing how one does not necessarily need to position the crossbow so high, cocking will not be as problematic compared to crossbows that have a lighter draw and a longer stroke. However, one cannot deny that using a rope cocker makes all of this way more comfortable.

Quality of the Optics Excalibur Matrix Grizzly

The Matrix Grizzly comes with a Deadzone scope, which is an excellent scope for shooting in most situations. The scope feature is a very handy one. It is also available on speed dial. However, it is necessary to note that adjusting up to 400 fps does not necessarily help your shot be better when using the Grizzly. Try this Sog Seal Pup Elite Knife, it’s a perfect choice.

This is not to say that this crossbow is inferior; the Matrix Grizzly is actually an excellent choice for recurve crossbows depending on your archery needs and skills. But if you want an upgrade, the Excalibur brand has an exceptional lineup of crossbow scopes that you should be sure to check out.

Conclusion

This Excalibur Matrix Crossbow has the great features and performance of the expensive matrix but at a very low price. While this isn’t a very fast crossbow, it does its job well and it’s good enough for hunting. If you have this crossbow, let us know your experience with it in the comment section below.
